Pinched Nerve

Natural, non-surgical relief from nerve impingement in Mount Pleasant, SC.

Acknowledge the Pain

Everyone gets odd aches now and then - but shooting pains in an arm or leg, balance problems, muscle weakness, tingling, or loss of sensation may signal a pinched nerve. Nerve impingement is common, but that doesn't make it any less unpleasant, and a severely pinched nerve can be downright debilitating. The good news: Mount Pleasant Neck & Back Center offers non-surgical methods to relieve it naturally.

UNDERSTANDING PINCHED NERVES

What Causes a Pinched Nerve?

A nerve is 'pinched' when nearby structures press against it, interfering with its ability to relay normal signals and triggering abnormal sensations. The nerve roots of the spine are especially vulnerable because they sit so close to the vertebrae and discs.

Bulging or Herniated Discs

A disc pushed out of place by a spinal misalignment or injury is a major cause of nerve impingement.

Poor Posture

An untreated spinal misalignment can lead to a lifetime of poor posture, allowing spinal structures to press on nerves and nerve roots.

Soft Tissue Inflammation

Inflamed soft tissue can pinch nerves too — as with carpal tunnel syndrome and other repetitive strain disorders.

SIGNS & SYMPTOMS

Know the Warning Signs

Sharp, severe or "electric" pain
A "funny bone" or "asleep" feeling in a hand or foot
Poor muscle control
Loss of muscle strength (in later stages)

Where you feel symptoms depends on which nerve roots or branches are involved. A pinched cervical nerve root can cause pain in the shoulder, arm, hand, or neck - known as cervical radiculopathy. Sciatica is another classic example, occurring when the sciatic nerve (the body's largest, stemming from the lumbar and sacral nerve roots) is pinched, producing leg and foot symptoms.

OUR APPROACH

Pinched Nerve Treatment at MPNBC

If these symptoms sound familiar, come in for an evaluation with Dr. Randy. Your treatment depends on what's causing the impingement:

Chiropractic Adjustments

If your pinched nerve is caused by a spinal misalignment or other bony pressure, a series of adjustments can take pressure off the injured nerve and give it time to heal, relieving your symptoms.

Spinal Decompression & Rehab

If the impingement comes from a herniated disc, non-surgical spinal decompression applies distraction force to create negative pressure and draw the disc back into line. From there we can add physical therapy, NMR (neuromuscular re-education) to rebuild atrophied muscles, or other natural solutions as needed.
