ABOUT DDD

Understanding Your Symptoms

If you've been struggling with unexplained pain, weakness, or numbness, the cause may be a gradual set of changes in the spine known as degenerative disc disease. It's commonly age-related, but it can begin at birth and show up at any age depending on the individual. Nerve impingement, joint inflammation, and other problems can rob you of mobility and quality of life : until you treat the underlying cause. Fortunately, that treatment is available right here at Mount Pleasant Neck & Back Center.

UNDERSTANDING DDD

Do You Suffer from Degenerative Disc Disease?

Your spine relies on cartilaginous, fluid-filled discs between the vertebrae. They absorb life's daily bumps and jolts while maintaining proper spacing, or 'height,' between the vertebrae. Over time - most often simply from aging - these discs naturally wear down, lose hydration, and flatten out. Those changes can lead to:

Bulging or Herniated Discs

A flattened or damaged disc may pinch neighboring nerve roots.

Spinal Osteoarthritis

Loss of spinal height can stress and inflame the facet joints that connect the vertebrae.

Spinal Stenosis

Dislocated or flattened discs can narrow the spinal canal and pinch the spinal cord.

Spondylolisthesis

Damaged facet joints can allow a vertebra to slip forward relative to the ones around it.

Symptoms can include back or neck pain, along with sharp pain, weakness, numbness, or tingling in the extremities. Depending on which nerves are affected, impingement can even contribute to bladder, bowel, or sexual dysfunction.

OUR APPROACH

Natural Treatment at Our Clinic

Targeted Spinal Adjustments

Many cases respond well to natural care. Dr. Randy begins with a detailed exam of your spine and symptoms to determine exactly where, how, and why the degeneration is happening. Targeted adjustments improve spinal alignment, relieve joint strain and inflammation, and improve nerve function.

Non-Surgical Spinal Decompression

If your discs are pressing on nerve tissue, spinal decompression can help immensely. We use a computer-driven table to apply precise distraction force to the spine. The resulting negative pressure draws bulging discs back into place - away from the sensitive spinal cord and nerve roots.
