Bulging & Herniated Disc

Non-surgical, natural disc treatment in Mount Pleasant, SC.

OUR PHILOSOPHY

A Delicate Balance

The spine is a complex structure with many demanding jobs - so one small malfunction can disrupt your health, wellness, and quality of life. A bulging disc is a prime example: when one of the small 'cushions' between your vertebrae slips out of position, it can trigger a cascade of pain and other symptoms. But you don't have to undergo surgery or simply live with it. At Mount Pleasant Neck & Back Center, we use non-invasive, natural methods to correct that errant disc.

KNOW THE DIFFERENCE

Bulging Disc vs. Herniated Disc

The terms get used interchangeably, but they're two distinct issues. Spinal discs sit between the vertebrae and act as shock absorbers, with a gelatinous inner core wrapped in a strong, fibrous casing.

Herniated Disc

The fibrous casing tears and the inner material pushes out onto nearby nerve roots - but the disc itself stays in position.

Bulging Disc

The disc actually slips out of its normal position in the spinal column, so part of the outer layer presses on the nerve root.

SYMPTOMS

Common Symptoms

Both problems can cause the same distressing symptoms:

Sharp or shooting pain through a limb
Tingling
Numbness
Loss of function or muscle weakness
Muscle spasms

Cervical (Neck)

A bulging cervical disc can cause neck pain, shoulder pain, and arm or hand problems.

Thoracic (Mid-Back)

A bulging thoracic disc can cause upper back pain that sometimes mimics a heart or digestive issue.

Lumbar (Lower Back)

A bulging lumbar disc is a common cause of sciatica and lower body radiating pain.

OUR APPROACH

Natural, Non-Surgical Relief

Bulging discs have many causes - traumatic accidents, natural aging, weak musculature, and habitual poor posture can all contribute. Symptoms may fade on their own, but they tend to recur unless the underlying condition is treated. And understandably, many people are hesitant to undergo a discectomy or other spinal surgery.

That's where we come in. Dr. Randy uses natural, non-surgical techniques to help guide a bulging disc back into its proper place - and keep it there. Manual spinal adjustments correct long-standing alignment problems that leave you vulnerable to slipped or bulging discs, and we prescribe corrective exercises and lifestyle adjustments to help you maintain a stronger, straighter spine.
